Belize had only been independent since 1981, and the Central Bank itself was barely two years old when this note was issued. The 1983 series represented the first full set of notes issued under the Central Bank of Belize name — prior notes circulated under the Monetary Authority of Belize, which had itself only replaced the Currency Board arrangement in 1982. Thomas De La Rue handled the printing throughout this transitional period, providing continuity in production even as the issuing authority changed names twice in three years.
The watermark is the sole mechanical security feature — no security thread, no see-through register.
