Liberia's extensive 1990s commemorative program was essentially a commercial licensing operation — the government authorized dozens of foreign-designed, foreign-minted silver issues aimed squarely at the collector market, with little connection to Liberian monetary history. This piece pairs Diana, Princess of Wales, with Mother Teresa, both of whom died in 1997, the same year of issue. The timing was not coincidence; the series was opportunistic, rushed to market within months of both deaths.
KM#592 saw wide distribution through television shopping channels and mail-order coin dealers across North America and Europe. Vast quantities were produced.
