Obverse description The national coat of arms of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a sailing ship on the sea with a palm tree and a rising sun to the right, crossed cannons below, and a dove in flight above. The shield is surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with a second inscription REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA appearing on a ribbon at the base. The date 2001 is divided across the lower field, flanking the coat of arms. The design is executed in a high-relief proof finish against a mirror-polished field.
