| Obverse description | The central field features the full coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, depicting a sailing ship on the sea, a palm tree and a rising sun on shore, with a dove in flight above, and a plow and shovel in the exergue, all within a decorative shield surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The date 2002 is divided by the shield, with '20' to the left and '02' to the right. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA appears both along the upper arc and again below the shield in smaller lettering, with a beaded border encircling the entire design. |

The BR 52 was a German freight locomotive designed in 1942 as a simplified, resource-conserving wartime production model — hence the nickname "Kriegslok," or war locomotive. Over 6,700 were built across occupied Europe using forced labor, making it the most numerously produced steam locomotive in history. Liberia issued this piece as part of a broader series of thematic collector coins with no connection to the issuing nation, a commercial licensing arrangement common among small states in the early 2000s.
