Obverse description The arms of the Republic of Liberia occupy the central field, depicting a sailing ship approaching a shoreline with a palm tree and a rising sun, with a dove above and a cannon with cannonballs in the lower portion of the shield, all supported by elaborate scrollwork and laurel branches. The motto legend THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE curves across the upper portion of the shield on a ribbon. The date 2001 is divided by the shield, with '20' to the left and '01' to the right. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper rim, repeated in smaller lettering at the base of the design within a secondary legend band.
