| Obverse description | The obverse presents a highly detailed antiqued relief depicting a bearded Babylonian warrior in full armour, wearing a crested helmet and holding the bridle of a large horse whose head dominates the centre of the composition. The warrior carries a round shield at his left side and is clad in ornate scaled armour with decorative fittings, rendered with exceptional sculptural depth. Behind the figures, the massive brick walls of ancient Babylon extend across the field, with the Hanging Gardens of Babylon suggested by lush palm trees and terraced vegetation visible in the upper right. The Palauan state coat of arms, inscribed REPUBLIC OF PALAU and RAINBOW'S END, appears in a cartouche at lower right, flanked by the denomination 20$ at upper left and the date 2022 at lower centre. |
