| Obverse description | The central field presents a richly detailed antique-finish relief depicting the Avenue of Sphinxes at Luxor in the foreground, with a row of ram-headed sphinx statues receding into the distance atop decorated plinths. Behind them rises a great pyramid, flanked by towering Egyptian columns, with an ancient temple colonnade extending across the background. The Coat of Arms of the Republic of Palau is inset at upper right within a decorative cartouche bearing the legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU and RAINBOW'S END. The denomination 20 DOLLARS appears in the left field. Palau has operated a prolific commemorative coin program since the 1990s, licensing its sovereign mint authority to produce collector issues with virtually no connection to the island nation's actual economy — the country uses the US dollar for daily transactions. The Ankh issue belongs to this commercial tier, produced for the international bullion-collector market rather than any domestic monetary purpose.
At 93.3 grams of fine silver, the striking was almost certainly contracted through a European private mint, most likely in Austria or Germany, where the majority of Palau's licensed collector output has historically been produced.
