Obverse description The national coat of arms of Liberia is prominently displayed in the center of the field, flanked by the date 2004 divided on either side. The shield depicts a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, and a rising sun above a coastal landscape, with a dove in flight above and a plough and spade below. A scrolled ribbon surrounds the arms bearing the motto legend THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA runs along the upper periphery, with a second inscription REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA repeated along the lower rim, all within a beaded border.

Liberia has issued commemorative silver under its own name since the 1970s, but virtually none of it was intended for domestic circulation — these pieces are produced entirely for the international collector market, contracted through European minting and distribution firms. Nobel himself died in San Remo in 1896, having stipulated in his will that his fortune fund annual prizes, a directive his family actively contested before the Nobel Foundation was formally established in 1900.
