Obverse description The obverse is printed in dark purple-brown intaglio on a fine guilloche underprint, with a three-quarter portrait vignette of Queen Elizabeth II at right, after the Annigoni-style photograph by Karsh of Ottawa. The large central numeral '20' flanks the bilingual inscription 'TWENTY DOLLARS / VINGT DOLLARS' against a lathe-work background, with the issuer name 'BANK OF CANADA – BANQUE DU CANADA' in a bold letterpress band below. Two signature lines at lower centre read 'DEPUTY GOVERNOR / SOUS-GOUVERNEUR' and 'GOVERNOR / GOUVERNEUR', with the place and date 'OTTAWA 1954' between them.
