Obverse description The obverse is printed in black and green intaglio on a light pink guilloche underprint. At left centre, an oval vignette presents a portrait of Princess Elizabeth as a young girl. The centre carries the large numeral '20' within an ornate frame, flanked by a circular maple leaf medallion to its right. The issuer's title 'THE BANK OF CANADA' arches across the top, with the obligation 'WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND' below it, and the place and date of issue 'OTTAWA, ISSUE OF 1935' across the middle field. Two facsimile signatures of the Deputy Governor and Governor appear at the lower centre.
