Obverse description The obverse is centred on an intaglio vignette of gold miners engaged in panning and sluicing within a river landscape, flanked by large guilloche rosettes each bearing the numeral '20'. The bank title 'THE BANK OF BRITISH COLUMBIA' arches across the top in bold serif lettering above the legend 'INCORPORATED BY ROYAL CHARTER 1862', while the promise-to-pay clause and place of issue run beneath the vignette. The denomination 'TWENTY DOLLARS' appears in the lower portion, with the date and 'VICTORIA, B.C.' to the left and the American Bank Note Co. imprint at the foot.
