Obverse description The obverse is printed in black on white paper with green guilloche underprint. At upper centre, a large vignette shows a farmer guiding a horse-drawn plough in a field, rendered in fine intaglio engraving. To the lower right, an oval portrait vignette of a bearded gentleman appears in intaglio. The bank title 'Imperial Bank of Canada' is set in bold letterpress across the upper portion, with the denomination numeral '20' at lower left and upper right, the place of issue 'Toronto' at centre, and manuscript date and promise-to-pay text reading 'will pay Twenty Dollars' across the centre field.
