Reverse description Heraldic eagle displayed with open wings, breast bearing a shield charged with vertical stripes. The eagle clutches traditional symbols of peace and power in its talons, with a scroll bearing the motto IN GOD WE TRUST above. The legend * UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * arcs around the upper periphery, while TWENTY DOL. appears at the lower rim. The overall design follows the pattern coinage style proposed by Chief Engraver William Barber as an alternative to the then-current Saint-Gaudens predecessor designs.
