Obverse description Black intaglio print on white cotton paper. At centre, a complex allegorical vignette shows a seated Britannia figure flanked by a lion and a female figure with maritime references in the background, surrounding a small oval portrait of Queen Victoria within a guilloche cartouche. To the left, a portrait vignette of a young man in period dress; to the right, a vignette of a hunter or frontiersman at the water's edge. Corner numerals read '20', with 'XX' in an ornate cartouche at upper left and denomination panel reading 'TWENTY' at lower left. The overprint 'SPECIMEN' appears in red across the face, and the text 'NOVA SCOTIA' is printed below the central vignette.
