Part of the America the Beautiful Quarters program extended into a collector-format series, this issue reproduces the Yosemite National Park quarter design — first released in 2010 — scaled up and struck in silver-plated copper-nickel for the premium market. Yosemite was among the first five parks to appear in the program, selected partly for its cultural weight as the park that anchored the 1890 federal preservation movement under Superintendent troops.
The silver plating on these pieces is notoriously thin, and edge wear exposing the copper-nickel core is common even in lightly handled examples.
