The Turks and Caicos Islands adopted the crown as their official currency unit in 1969, pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate — an arrangement that made the denomination largely ceremonial from the outset. By the 1990s, the islands had leaned fully into collector-market issues, with silver crown-sized pieces funding government revenue rather than circulating in any meaningful sense.
This 1993 issue falls within a dense run of commemoratives the territory produced around major sporting and ceremonial events of that decade. KM#102 is a one-year type.
