Obverse description Dark intaglio-printed note with a central guilloche oval enclosing the numeral "20" flanked by the words "VEINTE" on either side. The bank title "BANCO INTERNACIONAL DE COSTA RICA" arches across the upper portion in bold letterpress, with the place of issue "San José" and date "21 octubre 1918" inscribed at top. To the right, a classical female allegorical figure in draped robes stands in three-quarter pose, while serial numbers "40933" appear at lower left and right under "SÉRIE B"; the printer's imprint of the American Bank Note Company is noted at the lower margin.
