Obverse description Left-facing laureate bust of Queen Victoria, her hair elaborately coiffed and adorned with a wreath of laurel leaves, engraved in high relief by Leonard C. Wyon. The truncation of the neck is cleanly cut, set against a smooth field with rich toned surfaces. The circumferential legend reads VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA, disposed around the upper arc, with CANADA positioned along the lower arc. The portrait reflects the refined Young Head style characteristic of Royal Mint issues of this era, framed by a beaded border.
