Obverse description Draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, facing right, her hair loosely coifed and flowing at the nape, holding an olive branch in her left hand. Her garment features a prominent lion-head brooch at the chest, rendered in fine relief in the Art Deco style characteristic of Pierre Turin. The engraver's signature P. TURIN appears in the right field. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs around the upper periphery, within a distinctive scalloped inner border, with the date 1939 at the base.
