Swaziland's coinage has remained closely tied to the political persona of King Mswati III since his coronation in 1986 at age 18, making him one of the youngest monarchs to ascend to power in modern history. The country officially renamed itself Eswatini in 2018, rendering all Swaziland-issued coinage — including this 2015 piece — retrospectively obsolete by national decree rather than monetary reform.
