Obverse description The full Coat of Arms of Jamaica occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing five golden pineapples, surmounted by a Jamaican crocodile atop a royal helmet and mantling. Two figures serve as supporters: a helmeted male warrior at left and a female Taino figure at right, each shown in traditional dress. A scroll at the base of the arms bears the national motto. The legend JAMAICA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date of issue inscribed at the bottom of the field.

Reverse description A naturalistic spray of fig (Ficus carica) dominates the central field, rendered in fine relief with prominent lobed leaves and clusters of ripe fruit visible among the foliage. The denomination numeral 20 is prominently displayed in the lower central field, with the spelled-out value TWENTY CENTS inscribed in an arc beneath it. The commemorative legend WORLD FOOD DAY OCTOBER 16, 1981 curves along the upper and right periphery of the coin, referencing the FAO initiative that occasioned this issue.
