| Obverse description | Fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, rendered in fine relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The Queen wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara and a pearl drop earring, her hair elaborately styled. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the truncation of the neck. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II to the upper left and AUSTRALIA 1998 to the upper right, with TWENTY CENTS along the lower arc, all separated by raised dot stops. |

The 1951 Federation Florin this coin replicates was struck to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Australian federation, making it one of the few florins issued under George VI with a purely commemorative purpose rather than general circulation. By 1998, the original had become a collector's touchstone — the Masterpiece in Silver series was RAM's attempt to reissue classic Australian coin designs in fine silver at a time when the mint was aggressively expanding its bullion and proof programs. The .999 silver specification exceeds the sterling standard of the original by a considerable margin.
