Additional information

Cyprus joined the European Monetary System's exchange rate mechanism in 1992, but the groundwork for currency stability was being laid during this issue's production years — a period of deliberate monetary policy tightening by the Central Bank following the economic dislocations of the 1974 Turkish invasion and subsequent partition of the island. The bordered value variant (KM#57.2) distinguishes itself from its predecessor by the addition of a border around the denomination, a modification introduced mid-series rather than at a clean design break.
