| Obverse description | The obverse features a detailed high-relief depiction of the iconic nine-storey wooden pagoda tower of the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, rendered in fine numismatic relief against a mirror-polished field, with stylized cliff faces flanking the structure on either side. In the lower left, an inset circular medallion bears a right-facing effigy of King Charles III, uncrowned and in civilian dress, surrounded by the circular legend '20 CENTS · CHARLES III · SAMOA ·' and the date '2025'. Below the pagoda, in the lower right field, the site's name appears in large Chinese characters '敦煌莫高窟' above the English transliteration 'DUNHUANG MOGAO GROTTOES', both rendered in raised lettering. |
