| Additional information |
Redonda is an uninhabited Caribbean island of roughly 1.6 square kilometers whose "kingdom" has been a literary fiction since the 1880s, when M.P. Shiel claimed the title passed to him by his father. The succession has since been disputed by rival claimants — at various points the "throne" was held by poets, novelists, and eccentrics operating entirely outside any legal framework. Coins issued under this authority have no monetary function whatsoever and circulate exclusively among collectors as novelty items.
