One of hundreds of vales de necesidad issued by Catalan trade associations and municipal bodies during the Republican collapse of the peseta's small-denomination coinage in 1936–37. The Associació d'Hotelers, Cafeters i similars — a hospitality trade group — stepped in not as a monetary authority but out of sheer commercial necessity: without centimos in circulation, cafés and hotels could not make change. Imprenta Ribas, a local press, produced the notes at the most basic level of printing technology available.
Acceptance was almost certainly limited to member establishments.
