| Obverse description | The early version of the Uruguayan national coat of arms is displayed prominently in the center field, rendered as an oval shield divided into four quarters depicting scales of justice, a fortified hill (Cerro de Montevideo), a horse, and an ox, all surmounted by a radiant sun rising above the shield. The arms are flanked by laurel and olive branches forming a wreath and supported by crossed cannon barrels below, with a liberty pole and Phrygian cap to the left and a cornucopia to the right. The circular legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY runs along the periphery, separated from the design by a beaded inner border, with a small five-pointed star at the base of the coin. |
