| Obverse description | Central field features the elaborate papal coat of arms of Pope Pius XI, depicting a shield charged with an eagle displayed above three hills, surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter with ornate baroque scrollwork. The legend PIVS·XI·PONT MAX·AN·IX arcs around the periphery, with the regnal year expressed in Roman numerals and the date 1930 appearing in the lower exergual area. The entire design is rendered in a refined neoclassical engraving style characteristic of Aurelio Mistruzzi's work for the Vatican mint. |
