Reverse description The numeral denomination 20 is prominently displayed in the center of the field, accompanied by the cent symbol, with the date inscribed above and the mint mark Mo positioned below. A decorative border element derived from the Reed (Acatl) glyph — the 13th day sign of the Aztec calendar stone (Piedra del Sol) — frames the design in a stylized arc extending from the upper left to the lower right of the coin's periphery.

Additional information

This issue belongs to the second generation of Mexico's post-1993 redenomination coinage, introduced as the country shed three zeros from the peso following years of chronic inflation that had rendered small denominations functionally worthless. The "large type" designation distinguishes it from a physically smaller successor variety — a relatively uncommon situation where the smaller coin came later rather than earlier, driven by vending machine standardization pressures in the early 2000s.

Aluminium bronze was chosen for its resistance to corrosion in tropical circulation conditions and its visual durability under heavy use.
