Comments

The Banco Provincial de Córdoba was one of several Argentine provincial banks that issued their own currency during the fractured monetary period before the Banco Nacional absorbed many of their functions in the 1870s and 1880s. Córdoba's provincial notes circulated alongside national and foreign currency in a market where discount rates on paper varied daily depending on issuer reputation and the political mood in Buenos Aires.

The "Fuertes" designation distinguished these notes from inflated or depreciated paper denominated in moneda corriente — a meaningful distinction at the time, though one that became increasingly difficult to enforce in practice.
