The Emergency Currency Board issues of 1944 are among the most localized monetary responses to Japanese occupation in the Philippines — individual municipalities, backed by no formal banking structure, producing their own scrip to keep local commerce functioning after Japanese Military Pesos had eroded public confidence. Maribojoc is a small coastal municipality on the southern shore of Bohol, and its ECB notes are considerably harder to find than those from larger provincial centers like Tagbilaran.
The embossed seal was the authentication method of necessity — no printing security was available, and the physical impression of an official municipal seal was the closest approximation to tamper-resistance that local administrators could manage under occupation conditions.
