Obverse description Blue letterpress on yellow underprint, with a circular red bank seal at upper centre. The issuer name PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BANK arches across the upper portion above the EMERGENCY CIRCULATING NOTE legend, with the denomination TWENTY CENTAVOS printed in large bold letters at centre. Serial numbers appear in red at left and right, with two manuscript signatures below the denomination vignette, attributed to the Cashier and Acting President respectively.
Obverse lettering TWENTY CENTAVOS PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BANK EMERGENCY CIRCULATING NOTE ISSUED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF ACT NO 2612 OF THE PHILIPPINE LEGISLATURE THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BANK WILL PAY THE BEARER TWENTY CENTAVOS 20 CENTAVOS CASHIER ACTING PRESIDENT
Reverse description Blue on yellow underprint, with an American bald eagle facing right at centre, wings partially spread, rendered within an oval guilloche frame formed by two intersecting banner scrolls bearing the issuer name and note type. The date MANILA, P.I. NOV 20 1917 appears in the lower portion of the oval, flanked by ornate corner medallions with the denomination numerals 20c.
