Obverse description Central field depicts the Mexican national eagle, shown facing forward with wings spread, perched upon a cactus rising from a rocky outcrop, with a serpent in its beak — a design derived from the national arms. The eagle is rendered in low relief consistent with the cast production technique. A wreath of laurel and oak branches frames the lower portion of the design. The circular legend ESTADO DE AGUASCALIENTES runs along the upper periphery in Latin characters.

Additional information

Aguascalientes issued its own copper coinage in 1915 as the Constitutionalist government under Carranza struggled to maintain any coherent national currency system during the worst of the Revolutionary fragmentation. With Villista, Zapatista, and various regional forces each issuing scrip or coinage of dubious backing, individual states and even municipalities stepped in to fill the vacuum. These local emissions were typically accepted only within their own territory and frequently at a discount.

Copper issues from this period circulated hard and fast in a collapsing economy, which makes problem-free survivors genuinely scarce.
