| Obverse description | Allegorical female effigy of Liberty facing left, her hair adorned with wheat ears and bound in a classical headband, rendered in high relief in the Art Nouveau style. The truncation of the bust is visible at the lower field. The circular legend REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA runs along the periphery, divided to either side of the effigy, with the mint year appearing in the lower exergual area. A fine dentilated border frames the entire design. |
