Obverse description The obverse features a central field bearing the four-character reign title 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao) arranged in a cruciform pattern around a central decorative rosette motif, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The upper arc of the outer border carries the Chinese legend 江蘇省造 (Made in Kiangsu Province) flanked by Manchu script reading ᠪᠣᠣ ᠰᡠ (Boo-su, denoting the mint), while the lower arc reads 當錢二十 (equivalent to twenty cash), each element separated by decorative devices. The entire design is framed by a continuous beaded border and a toothed outer rim, typical of the milled machine-struck provincial cash coinage of the late Qing dynasty.
