Issued to commemorate the centenary of the Thai Ministry of Finance, founded in 1875 under Rama V as part of his sweeping modernization of Siamese government institutions. By 1995, such commemorative 20-baht pieces had become a well-established vehicle for official anniversaries under Rama IX, struck in modest quantities and rarely absorbed into everyday circulation.
