This is one of the largest gold coins regularly produced by the People's Bank of China, part of the lunar series that Beijing has issued annually since 1981. The 2000g format sits at the apex of each year's tiered release — the same design appears on fractional issues down to 1g — and mintage at this weight is tightly restricted, typically to a few hundred pieces.
