| Obverse description | A vignette of a Cenderawasih Merah (Red Bird of Paradise) perched on a branch occupies the right-centre of the note, rendered in fine intaglio with vivid red plumage contrasting against a multicolour guilloche underprint. The upper left carries the bank title BANK INDONESIA and the numeral 20000 in a dark ornate panel, while the lower centre bears the denomination DUA PULUH RIBU RUPIAH in bold letterpress. Two signature panels — GUBERNUR and DIREKTUR — with the year date appear centrally, flanked by the Bank Indonesia monogram medallion at lower left and the Garuda Pancasila coat of arms at upper right. |

The P#132 series was printed by Perum Peruri, the state-owned security printing works established in 1971 — one of relatively few developing nations at the time operating a fully domestic banknote press rather than contracting to De La Rue, TDLR, or another European security printer. That independence was a deliberate policy choice, and notes from this period carry all the technical markers of Peruri's maturing capabilities: functional rather than elaborate, but entirely self-sufficient.
The early 1990s were a period of sustained Indonesian monetary expansion, and the 20,000 Rupiah denomination sat at the upper end of everyday transactional use before inflation pushed higher values into common circulation.
