| Obverse description | Central design depicts the coat of arms of Uruguay as it appeared on the 1854 coinage, featuring an oval shield with a radiating sun at the top, a scales motif, an ox, a hill, and a horse, all encircled by a laurel and olive wreath tied at the base. Flanking the shield are crossed cannon, flags, and a fasces with an axe. The legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY curves across the upper field of the central design, with the commemorative date 1854 inscribed in the lower field below the arms. The outer border carries the circumferential legend PRIMERA MONEDA DE ORO ACUNADA EN MONTEVIDEO, with the anniversary date 1984 at the base, separated from the central design by a plain recessed ring. |
