Wimpfen am Neckar is one of the smallest towns ever to issue its own emergency currency — a medieval Staufen-era settlement with a population well under two thousand at the time of printing. The 1923 hyperinflation forced even municipalities this size to produce local Notgeld simply to meet payroll and enable basic commerce, as Reichsbank notes were rendered worthless faster than they could be transported and distributed through normal channels.
Carl Rembold & Co. in Heilbronn handled printing for several small Baden-Württemberg municipalities during this period, working under severe time pressure. The authentication relied entirely on an official municipal stamp and the Bürgermeister's countersignature — no serial numbering, no watermark.
