Oggersheim was a small industrial town on the Rhine, absorbed into Ludwigshafen in 1942, and its Stadtkasse issued this note during the hyperinflationary peak of autumn 1923 — when twenty million marks was barely enough for a loaf of bread. Municipal emergency money at this denomination is a direct measure of just how fast the Reichsmark was disintegrating: denominations that would have seemed absurd in January were obsolete by October.
Local Notgeld at this scale was printed and spent within days of issue, which is precisely why intact survivors exist — they were often pulled from circulation before they wore out, overtaken by yet higher denominations.
