The Warsaw Uprising of August–October 1944 was suppressed by German forces while Soviet troops held position east of the Vistula, a deliberate halt that Polish historians have never forgiven. Roughly 200,000 civilians died in the aftermath, and the city was systematically demolished on Hitler's personal order. Poland waited decades under communist rule before the uprising could be commemorated without political complication.
The Nordic gold composition — an aluminum-bronze alloy developed specifically for high-volume circulation bimetallic coins — places this firmly in Poland's long-running Y2 commemorative series, which has issued hundreds of two-złoty pieces since 1995.
