Racibórz, located in Upper Silesia near the Czech border, is one of Poland's oldest towns — documented as a settlement before the 10th century and later a seat of the Piast duchy of Racibórz until its line died out in 1336. The Nordic gold collector series, of which this is one installment, was issued under a long-running NBP program commemorating Polish cities and regions, with individual releases often numbering in the hundreds of thousands and circulating freely despite their collector framing.
