| Obverse description | At center, the crowned Polish eagle with wings spread — the national emblem of Poland — rendered in high relief against a plain field. The circular legend RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA arcs along the upper periphery. The date 1997 is divided flanking the eagle at mid-level, with the mint mark of the Mint of Poland (MW) below the eagle. The denomination 2 ZŁ appears in large numerals at the bottom of the field, flanked by the currency abbreviations ZŁ on either side, all surrounded by a decorative border of raised dots. |

| Reverse description | A right-facing portrait bust of Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, Polish explorer and geologist (1797–1873), occupying the lower right portion of the field. Above and to the left, a stylized globe is depicted in profile, surmounted by an emu and a kangaroo in profile — symbolic references to Australia, the continent Strzelecki explored and named Mount Kosciuszko. The explorer's name PAWEŁ EDMUND STRZELECKI and his life dates 1797–1873 appear as the principal legend, with the engraver's monogram NR also present in the field. |
