Additional information

Part of the Nordic Gold regional series launched by NBP in 2004 to document Poland's administrative voivodeships, this issue covers the Opole region in southwestern Poland — territory that changed hands repeatedly between Germany and Poland across the twentieth century, remaining part of Germany until 1945. The area's complicated postwar resettlement, in which German populations were expelled and Poles relocated from Soviet-annexed eastern territories moved in, gives the region an unusually layered identity for a provincial coin issue.
