Poland's "Nordic Gold" two-złoty collector series, launched in 1994, used the aluminum-bronze alloy developed by the Swedish firm Boliden specifically to resist counterfeiting through its distinctive color shift under different lighting conditions. This particular issue commemorates the Polish oil and gas sector, which traces its commercial origins to Bóbrka in the Carpathian foothills — where Ignacy Łukasiewicz sank one of the world's first purpose-drilled petroleum wells in 1854, predating the famous Drake well in Pennsylvania by five years.
