Additional information

Issued to mark the 80th anniversary of Polish independence, recovered after 123 years of partition under Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The word "odzyskania" — meaning "regained" — was a deliberate choice, carrying the implication that independence was not granted but reclaimed. Nordic gold, the copper-aluminum-zinc-tin alloy adopted by many European mints in the 1990s for its resistance to counterfeiting and its distinctive warm color, was by 1998 the standard material for Poland's commemorative bimetallic circulation issues.
