| Obverse description | The Polish state eagle, crowned and displayed with wings spread, occupies the central field. The circumferential legend RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script. The mint mark MW and the date 2001 are positioned flanking the eagle in the lower field, with the denomination ZŁ 2 ZŁ inscribed at the bottom. A decorative dot border separates the legend from the coin's rim. |

Wyszyński spent over three years under house arrest between 1953 and 1956, imprisoned by Poland's communist government after refusing to submit the Church to state control. His release came only after Gomułka's return to power and a significant shift in party policy. The NBP issued this coin five years after his beatification cause was formally opened in Rome — a process still ongoing at time of striking.
