Reverse description A left-facing portrait bust of the Polish-born British novelist Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, better known as Joseph Conrad, depicted with beard and mustache in a realistic artistic style, occupying the left portion of the field. Behind the portrait, a stylized outline of an open book or navigational chart is incused into the background. To the right, a detailed rendering of a tall sailing ship evokes Conrad's maritime career and literary themes. A facsimile of Conrad's signature, Joseph Conrad, is inscribed diagonally across the central field, accompanied by his birth and death dates 1857-1924. The legend KONRAD KORZENIOWSKI arcs along the upper periphery, with the engraver's mark visible at the lower left.
