Obverse description The Polish state emblem — a crowned white eagle displayed with wings spread and talons extended — occupies the center of the field, rendered in high relief with fine feather detailing. Flanking the lower portion of the eagle are two stylized hoopoe feathers, extending diagonally to the left and right, subtly connecting the national symbol to the coin's wildlife theme. The circular legend RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA arcs along the upper rim. Below the eagle, the date 2000 appears, with the denomination ZŁ 2 ZŁ inscribed in the lower exergue. The mint mark of the Mint of Poland (MW) appears beneath the eagle's talons.

Reverse description A naturalistic depiction of a hoopoe (Upupa epops) perched on a gnarled, leafless branch dominates the coin's field, the bird rendered in fine detail with its distinctive fan-shaped crest fully erected and long curved bill clearly defined. The surrounding composition incorporates additional bare branches, evoking the bird's natural woodland habitat. The legend DUDEK - Upupa epops curves along the upper right rim in two lines, giving both the Polish vernacular name and the Linnaean binomial. The engraver's monogram NR appears in the lower-left field near the base of the branch.
